George Harker termination records, 1973-1995.

Termination records of George R. Harker, a faculty member of the Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Administration (RPTA) department at Western Illinois University. Harker was the first full faculty member to be terminated from employment at WIU. Known on campus and elsewhere as Dr. Leisure, Harker's field of study included nude beaches and nude sunbathing. The termination proceedings, which lasted through the 1990-1991 school year, culminated in his being fired on June 20, 1991. The collection includes the record of proceedings, Harker's first and second motions to dismiss the charges, petitioner's exhibits, and documents relating to the hearing committee, including correspondence and other records belonging to Paul Nollen, the chair of the committee, and Richard Vick, a member of the committee. A few materials relating to Harker's subsequent lawsuits are also included.
